I’ll Be Waiting – Part 1

“No need to suspend! I’m not going to step into this bloody school ever again!” with those harsh departing words, Jaycee stormed out of the HOD room.

She had been caught smoking by the DM again and when he threatened to suspend her, Jaycee decided that she had had enough. She had never really enjoyed school anyway and was glad to have finally found the perfect excuse to stop attending school for good. Her parents wouldn’t be too happy about it but she was confident that she could convince them that keeping her in school would do her more harm than good.

Jaycee had longed to earn her own salary so that she didn’t have to depend on her parents to quench her insatiable thirst for material wants. Like any 16-year-old, she wanted to lay her hands on the latest gizmos and dressed in the trendiest fashion. Now that she had quit school, she could begin her quest for the kind of life she had always desired.

A friend recommended her to work as a salesgirl at a fashion outlet. Initially, Jaycee wasn’t very keen in working as a salesgirl but accepted the job when she thought of the clothes that she would get to try on. After a nervous first day, Jaycee soon settled in her new environment and looked forward to her first pay cheque.

It was a warm and humid afternoon. Jaycee was busy putting up some new arrivals for display when a youthful couple entered the shop. Though, it wasn’t her first encounter with young couples, she couldn’t keep her eyes off them. It wasn’t that the guy was a good-looker but her interest in them was aroused by the way the guy was waiting on his female companion. Instead of getting Jaycee to serve her, he attended to her personally and would wait patiently outside the fitting room to give comments as she tried on different garments. He was so heedful to her every call that she was like his queen. After trying numerous outfits, the young lady passed those that she wanted to him and he readily brought them to the cashier.

The woman seemed to be enjoying all the attention that she was getting from her gentlemanly boyfriend. As the couple stepped out of the shop, Jaycee watched enviously at them. She had always dreamt of being pampered by such a guy. A guy who was not only a gentleman but also mindful of her every need. She had been in and out of relationships since sec. 1. The guys that she had gone out with didn’t treat her the way the gentleman did. In fact, she was the one giving in and attending to their needs and wants. She figured that probably that was because she needed their company more than they did. But it had never occurred to her that guys could be so thoughtful until she witnessed the existence of such a guy that day.

For the rest of the day, she realised that she couldn’t get her mind off the ‘rare find’. She wondered if she would ever meet someone like him.
